ISSUE: An intermittent increase in steering gear efforts along with a snapping noise coming from the steering system may be corrected by installing a new design steering gear "short rack" (E6DZ-3L547-B).

ACTION: Use the procedure outlined in the Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 13-46-9.
