This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and motor Vehicla Safety Act.
Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1986 and 1987 Taurus/Sable vehicles.
Safety Defect When operated primarily in areas where large
quantities of road salts are used for road
dust and ice control, ths front brake rotors
on your car may corrode and progressively
weaken. Eventually one of the rotors may
fracture. If this occurs, the car may
"pull" to one side during braking. In
addition, stopping distances may be increased.
A collision could result, A fractured rotor
typically would produce a loud grinding or
rattling noise,
REPAIRS At no charge to you, your dealer will inspect
and, if necessary, replace both front brake
rotors on your car.
How long will The time needed to service your car is about
service take? two hours. However, due to scheduling
times, your dealer may need your car for one
full working day.
Call your dealer Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a
service date and whether parts are in stock.
If your dealer does not have the parts in
stock, they can be ordered before scheduling
your service date. Parts vould be expected
to arrive within a week.
When you bring your car in, give the dealer
this letter.
If you misplace this letter, your dealer will
still do the work, free of charge.
Special Service After inspection, your dealer may also
Note recommend replacement of the front brake
pads or other brake related maintenance
when your car is in for the recall repairs.
Such service would be routine maintenance or
repairs unrelated to the recall and would be
charged to the owner.
Refunds If you have previously paid to have the
brake rotors on your car replaced due to a
corrosion related fracture of one of the
rotors, Ford is offering a refund including
deductible amounts. For a refund, please
give the original copy of your paid work-
order to your Ford or Mercury dealer, Your
car will need to be inspected to determine
if the proper rotors were installed. If the
proper rotors were not installed, the rotors
will again be replaced.
Changed address If you halve, please fill out enclosed prepaid
or sold the postcard and mail it to us.

If the dealer doesn't make the repair promptly and without charge, you should contact the Ford Parts and Service Division office whose address is shown in your Owner Guide booklet.
