ISSUE:
ATX shift concerns may be caused by valve body gasket misalignment.
ACTION:
A new shorter alignment pin is available to prevent the possibility of the valve body gasket moving during valve body installation. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for procedures leading up to valve body installation and the following service procedure when installing a valve body on an ATX transaxle.
1. Install a new shorter Valve Body Alignment Pin T94P-77100-A and previous Valve Body Guide Pin T80L-77100-A in case, Figure 1.
2. Install valve body gasket on the case using alignment pins, Figure 2.
3. Install Z-link in manual valve, Figure 3.
4. Using the alignment pins, position the valve body down on the case.
NOTE:
MAKE SURE THE THROTTLE VALVE PLUNGER ROLLER HAS ENGAGED THROTTLE LEVER SHAFT CAM, FIGURE 4.
5. Install the main regulator exhaust plate, using seven longer valve body bolts. Finger tighten the seven (7) retaining bolts, Figure 5.
6. Install transaxle control baffle plate. Finger tighten the two (2) retaining bolts, Figure 6.
7. Install sixteen (16) valve body bolts and detent spring, Figure 7. Snug the rest of the bolts, but do not torque yet.
8. Remove the alignment pins and install the remaining two (2) bolts. Tighten the valve body bolts to 8.1-9.3 N-m (72-82 lb. in.) in the sequence shown in Figure 8.
9. Loosen the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch retaining bolts.
a. With the manual valve in NEUTRAL position, insert a No. 43 bit drill (0.089") through the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch.
b. Push the drill bit through the switch until it seats against the case, Figure 9.
c. Tighten the switch retaining bolts to 9-12 N-m (7-9 lb.ft.) and remove the drill bit.
10. Connect one end of the throttle valve control spring to exposed hole in separator plate of valve body. Connect the other end of the spring to spring anchor on throttle lever cam assembly, Figure 10.
CAUTION:
USE CARE NOT TO DROP THE SPRING DOWN INTO THE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. THIS CAN BE PREVENTED BY COVERING THE AREA AROUND THE MANUAL DETENT LEVER, OR BY TEMPORARILY ATTACHING A LARGE PART TAG TO THE SPRING SO THAT IT CANNOT FALL INTO THE CASE.
11. Install a new valve body cover gasket, Figure 11.
12. Install a valve body cover.
a. Install the throttle valve cable bracket under the valve body cover bolt by the pump, Figure 12.
b. Tighten the cover retaining bolts to 9-12 N-m (7-9 lb.ft.).
