ISSUE: Transmission cases for the model PMAAW ATX transaxles that are stamped with a die number 56 will not assemble to the transfer case of the AWD vehicles. This is caused by the transfer gear bearing race interfering with the inside edge of the transmission case. The die number 56 is cast in the transmission case in two inch numerals on the outside surface of the top of the bell housing.

ACTION: If service is required, do not use transmission cases stamped with a die number 56 on 1987 All Wheel Drive vehicles with ATX transaxles.

NOTE: ATX transmission cases with the die number 56 can be used to service twowheel drive vehicles.
