Owner Letter
January, 1987Dear Owner:
This notice is sent to you because Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited (Ford) has determined that certain 1987 Tempo and Topaz vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) No. 115 "Vehicle Identification Number".
Reason For This Recall
Your Vehicle's Identification Number (VIN) shown on the plate located on the driver's side by the windshield, on the plate on the Warranty Card, on the Safety Compliance Decal (located on the driver's side door pillar), and on the Registration Certificate, may not contain correct information about your car. Federal requirements specify that a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) identify certain vehicle attributes on the Safety Certification Decal and on the VIN plate. If the VIN contained on any of these items is incorrect and inconsistent, it may at some time present problems with respect to vehicle registration, warranty service work or vehicle resale.
Service To Be Performed
At no cost to you, your dealer will inspect your car and, if necessary, replace the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate, Safety Compliance Decal and Warranty card on your car. The time needed for the inspection is about one-half hour. If it is necessary to replace the VIN Plate, Safety Compliance Decal and Warranty Card, about 3 hours is needed. As these parts must be ordered by the dealer, an appointment will have to be made for this service. The dealer will also check if the VIN on your vehicle's License registration is correctly identified. If it is not, he will arrange to have your vehicle's license registration corrected. If this correction is required it is recommended that you also advise your automobile insurance company, loan agency, etc. of the change.
What You Should Do
Call your dealer now and ask for a service appointment. When you take your car in, give the attached form(s) to the dealer. If you misplace the form, your dealer will still do the work free of charge. We urge you to have this service performed promptly.
If you have any questions about this recall, please call your dealer. If your dealer cannot help you, please check your cars' Owner Guide for the address and phone number of the nearest Ford of Canada Regional Office.
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience.
