ISSUE: Radio static while in "FM" mode may be caused by the dielectric grease that was applied on the distributor rotor at the Chihuahua Engine Plant.

ACTION: To correct this, install a new distributor cap and rotor using the following diagnostic service procedure.

1. Check engine code tag for the letters "CH". If "CH" is present, the engine was built at the Chihuahua Engine Plant.

2. Inspect the distributor rotor blade tip for dielectric grease or white crusted residue.

3. If grease or white crusted residue is found, install a new distributor cap (E5FZ-12106-C) and rotor (E6FZ-12200-A).

NOTE: Engines not built at the Chihuahua Engine Plant, or if no grease or white crusted residue was found, refer to to the 1987 Car Shop Manual, Volume C, Section 35-03 for normal diagnostics.
