87ford17

Article No. STALL - 2.3L HSC - AFTER COLD START WITH
87-16-13 AIR CONDITIONING OR DEFROSTER "ON"

FORD: 1987 TEMPO

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987 TOPAZ

CALIBRATIONS: 7-25F-R00, 7-25Q-R00, 7-26E-R00, 7-26R-R00

WARNING: This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.

ISSUE: Stalling may be experienced after a "cold" start-up on vehicles with less than 500 miles (800 kilometers) in ambient temperatures of 50~F or warmer (10~C or warmer) with the A/C or defroster "on". This can be caused by the lack of mileage needed for the EEC IV processor to learn adaptive idle strategy.

ACTION: If "cold" start-up stalling still exists after accumulating 500 miles (800 kilometers), install a new level EEC IV processor. Refer to the following application chart for additional service information.
