RADIO - ELECTRONIC PREMIUM CASSETTE (EPC) RADIO - TAPE EJECT OPERATION
FORD: 1988 TAURUS, CROWN VICTORIA
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988 SABLE, GRAND MARQUIS, MARK VII, CONTINENTAL, LINCOLN TOWN CAR
ISSUE: Electronic Premium Cassette (EPC) Radios that are used in 1988 model year vehicles MUST BE "ON" to eject the cassette tape from the player. If the cassette tape is left in the player and the player is turned "OFF", the player mechanism will not be damaged.
In 1987 and prior models, it was possible to manually eject a cassette tape after the player had been "OFF". The prior model year Owner Guides stressed the importance of removing the tape from the player to prevent damage to the pinch roller in the cassette mechanism.
ACTION: If required, refer to the following 1988 EPC "Tape Eject" operation and the 1988 Owner Guide.
A cassette can be inserted with the power "OFF", but the player must be "ON" to eject the tape. If the player is turned "OFF" while the cassette tape is playing, the cassette tape will remain in the player, and the head and pinch roller will move away from the cassette tape to prevent damage.
NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE CASSETTE TAPE WHEN THE IGNITION IS "OFF".
