FORD: 1988 ESCORT, EXP, TEMPO, MUSTANG, THUNDERBIRD, CROWN VICTORIA

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988 TOPAZ, COUGAR, GRAND MARQUIS, MARK VII, LINCOLN TOWN CAR

ISSUE: A unique steering wheel retaining bolt and washer assembly was used to attach the steering wheel to the steering column during initial vehicle assembly. This retaining bolt and washer assembly is not to be reused if it is removed.

ACTION: If the retaining bolt and washer assembly is removed to service the steering wheel or steering column, it MUST be thrown away. Replace the old retaining bolt and washer assembly with a new service bolt (N804385-S100) and washer (390392-S). Torque the new retaining bolt to 23-33 ft.lbs. (31-44 N-m).
