POWER DOOR LOCKS - INOPERATIVE - RELAY CATCHES ON THE PASSENGER'S POWER SEAT - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 10/14/87
FORD: 1987-88 THUNDERBIRD
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987-88 COUGAR
ISSUE: Inoperative power door locks may be caused by the electrical relays catching on the bottom of the seat cushion frame assembly when the seat is moved forward. The mounting bracket for the power door lock relays may have been bent upward which allows the relays to catch on the seat bottom.
ACTION: To correct this, reposition the mounting bracket downward to provide enough clearance between the seat and relays. Refer to the following service procedure.
1. Move the passenger's seat all the way forward to allow access to the power door lock relays under the seat.
2. Check the relays, connectors and wiring for damage. Repair or replace as required.
3. Bend the relay mounting bracket downward and move the seat slowly to make sure there is enough clearance between the relays and the seat.
