RADIO-SOUND DISTORTION FROM SPEAKERS-VEHICLES WITH PREMIUM SOUND AND/OR GRAPHIC EQUALIZER

ISSUE: Sound distortion or erratic operation from the radio speakers may be caused by a poor connection at the Premium Sound amplifier. The sound distortion is most noticable while travelling over rough roads.
ACTION: Use the following procedure to diagnose and repair the connector terminals.
Figure 1:
1. Lightly tap on the Premium Sound amplifier harness, near the amplifer connection, while the radio is "ON". If sound distortion or erratic speaker operation is present proceed to Step 2.
2. Disconnect the harness connector from the Premium Sound amplifier.
3. Inspect the female pins of the connector for open or expanded terminals, Figure 1.
4. If the terminals are loose, remove them from the connector and crimp them using pliers as shown in Figure 1.
5. If this procedure does not eliminate the condition, refer to the diagnosis portion of the appropriate Shop Manual, Section 35-05.
