Component Tests and General Diagnostics

1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position and A/C switch to ON position. The engine does not have to be operating.
2. If the engine cooling fan operates, the system is operating properly.
3. If the engine cooling fan does not operate, refer to ``Engine Cooling Fan Does Not Operate With A/C Switch On.''
4. Turn A/C switch to OFF position. Start and operate engine until engine coolant temperature reaches approximately 221°F. If necessary, partially block air flow through radiator to increase coolant temperature to 221°F.
5. If the engine and A/C fan operate, the system is operating properly.
6. If the engine fan operates but the A/C fan does not, refer to ``Engine Fan Operates, But A/C Fan Does Not Operate.''
7. If the engine cooling fan does not operate but the A/C fan does, refer to ``Engine Cooling Fan Does Not Operate, But A/C Fan Operates.''
8. If the engine and A/C fans do not operate, refer to ``Engine Cooling Fan & A/C Fan Do Not Operate.''
9. Disconnect electrical connector from engine coolant temperature switch and connect A/C gauge set. Set A/C controls for maximum cooling and open vehicle doors.
10. Start and operate engine until normal operating temperature is obtained. Ensure engine is operating at correct curb idle speed. If engine fan operates when A/C switch is turned ON and A/C fan operates when A/C high side pressure reaches 254 psi, system is operating properly. If necessary, partially block air flow over condenser to increase high side pressure.
11. If A/C fan does not operate at specified pressure, proceed to ``A/C Fan Does Not Operate, But Engine Fan Operates.''
