LATCH/CABLE - FUEL FILLER DOOR - SHOP MANUAL CORRECTION

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987-88 SABLE


ISSUE: The fuel filler door latch/cable assembly removal and installation procedure was omitted from the 1987 and 1988 Taurus/Sable Shop Manuals, Section 44.

ACTION: If service is required, use the following service procedure. This information should be inserted in your Shop Manuals.

1. Remove the left hand package tray speaker cover from the trunk of Sables ONLY.

2. Reach inside and remove the clip retaining the headrest on Sables ONLY.

3. Remove the headrest on Sables ONLY.

4. Remove rear seat and seat back.

5. Remove left hand center body pillar inside finish panel and front door scuff plate.

6. Remove screw and pin from fuel filler door.

7. Remove three (3) push pins and remove floor carpet support.

8. Position carpet and insulator aside.
9. Remove two (2) screws and remove fuel filler remote release assembly.

10. Turn fuel filler remote release over and disconnect fuel filler cable.

11. Pull the cable out from the plastic cover holding the wire harness in place along the floor and "C" pillar.

12. Pull cable from the inside of the trunk.

13. Pull cable out of the clips holding the cable in place behind the package tray in the trunk.

14. Remove the right hand luggage compartment cover assembly.

15. Remove clip holding cable to quarter panel extension.

16. Open fuel filler door and remove the lock nut holding latch assembly to the quarter inner panel.

17. Reach into trunk and remove cable.

18. Reverse Steps 1 through 17 for installation.
