LATCH - HOOD - NEW SERVICE PART AND REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

ISSUE: A new design hood latch assembly is available to service 1988 Taurus/Sable vehicles. The new design hood latch incorporates the assist spring and secondary latch as part of the hood latch assembly. It also has two (2) new locating pins to assist in locating the latch during installation. The new latch may be used to service early built 1988 units that do not have holes in the radiator support for the latch locating pins.

ACTION: If service is required, modify the new design latch assembly by removing the locating pins. Refer to the following service procedure.

FIGURE 1:

1. Using a small punch, knock out the two locating pins from the latch assembly, Figure 1.

FIGURE 2:

2. Remove and throw away the existing auxiliary latch and assist spring, Figure 2.

3. Install the new latch assembly to the radiator support and adjust as necessary.

NOTE: THE CUSTOMER SHOULD BE INFORMED THAT THE LOCATION OF THE HOOD AUXILIARY LATCH HAS SLIGHTLY CHANGED.
