ELECTRONIC AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL (EATC) - INACCURATE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE READING
Article No. 88-17-2
FORD: 1987-88 TAURUS
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987-88 SABLE
ISSUE: Inaccurate outside temperature readings may be displayed on the electronic automatic temperature control after the vehicle has been parked for three or more hours in sunny 40 degree to 60 degree F (6 degree to 16 degree C) temperatures. This may be caused by the cold engine lockout switch not resetting itself due to the effect of the sun entering the passenger compartment.
ACTION: To correct this, install an engine compartment cold engine lockout switch. Refer to the service instructions packaged with the new cold engine lockout switch for removal and installation procedures.
