The referenced dealer letter provided additional coverage for certain 1988-model 3.0L engine and air conditioned equipped Taurus and Sable cars for refrigerant leakage as a result of compressor shaft seal damage.
This letter anounces that the same coverage is being provided for certain 1989-model 3.0L engine and air conditioned equipped Taurus and Sable cars. These cars were manufactured at the Atlanta and Chicago Assembly Plants through October 31, 1988.
Please be advised that all cars (1988 and 1989-Models) covered by this program may have the air conditioning compressor assembly replaced if it is damaged as a result of seal damage. A Form 1863 should be used to claim the appropriate compressor part number from your service parts catalog; use the published labor time. Also, include the quantity of refrigerant required for each repair and insert "M68" in the program code box of the claim form.
Program provisions and limitations remain the same as those established in the original bulletin (12 additional months - 24 months total). Refunds for repairs performed prior to this anouncement will be available for 1989-model owners through July 1990.
Owners of affected Taurus and Sable cars will be notified with the letter shown on Attachment I. Note: FIES is alerting all owners in Federalized export markets and in selected non-Federalized FIES areas where direct owner contact is not restricted.

Dear Taurus/Sable Owner:
This is to advise you of a special Ford Motor Company service program (M68) involving air conditioning system compressor shaft seal leakage on certain 1989-model Taurus and Sables. Our records indicate that you own the car described below:

REASON FOR Your car may experience a condition where the air conditioning
THE PROGRAM system may lose ability to cool your car as a result of a
refrigerant leakage at the compressor shaft seal.
WHAT WE If your car should have this condition, any Ford or
WILL DO Lincoln-Mercury dealer will replace the seal and recharge the
svstem. This no charge service is available for an additional 12-months from the warranty start date (a total of 24-months of coverage.)
WHAT YOU PLEASE RETAIN THIS LETTER. If your car should exhibit the

REFUNDS If you have already had the compressor shaft seal replaced at
your expense prior to tbe receipt of this notification and within the above time limitation, Ford will refund you for the cost that you incurred for the parts and labor. Refunds include any deductible amounts you may have paid.
To request a refund, please present your paid repair order or over-the-counter parts purchase receipt to any Ford dealership by July 31, 1990. The dealership will make arrangements to refund you for the repair costs that you incurred.
