This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to clarify Tongue Service Kit and Tongue Cover part applications.

ISSUE: A new service kit for replacing the front safety belt outboard tongue is now available. Previously, if service was required on the safety belt outboard tongue, the entire safety belt assembly had to be replaced. Thunderbird/Cougar applications are Canadian only.

ACTION: If service to the front safety belt outboard tongue is required, use one of the new service kits. Refer to the application chart that follows to determine the correct part usage. Follow the installation instructions provided with the service kit.






NOTE: TWO KITS ARE REQUIRED TO SERVICE BOTH FRONT SAFETY BELT OUTBOARD TONGUES OF A VEHICLE.

WARNING: INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED WITH THE SERVICE KITS. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED EXACTLY TO MAKE SURE OF PROPER OPERATION OF THE SAFETY BELT ASSEMBLY.

NOTE: NEW SAFETY BELT TONGUE COVER IS ALSO REQUIRED.

A new safety belt tongue cover must be installed. The safety belt tongue cover is not included in the service kit. The tongue cover must be ordered as a separate item.
