AIR CONDITIONING - ELECTRONIC AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL (EATC) - BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE

Article No. 89-6-7

FORD: 1988-89 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988-89 CONTINENTAL, SABLE

ISSUE: An inoperative blower motor or a blower motor that operates intermittently may be caused by the climate control assembly, blower motor, blower motor controller or high blower relay malfunction.

ACTION: Check the climate control assembly and blower motor for proper operation by following the diagnostic procedures in the appropriate Car Shop Manual. If either component is faulty, replace it and operate the system to make sure it functions okay. If the climate control assembly and the blower motor are okay, replace both the blower motor controller and high blower relay.

NOTE: DO NOT JUST REPLACE ONE COMPONENT AT A TIME IF SERVICE TO THE BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER OR HIGH BLOWER RELAY IS REQUIRED. BOTH THE BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER AND THE HIGH SPEED BLOWER RELAY MUST BE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME.
