ISSUE: A heavy "rumble/rattle" noise may come from the upper part of the engine. This occurs because the timing chain stretches from wear and causes the balance shaft gear to rattle. The noise is most noticeable between 1200 and 2400 engine RPM, with the transmission in drive and the engine under a load condition at part throttle.

ACTION: Install a timing gear set service kit (FODZ-6B263-A), consisting of a new design service timing chain, crank sprocket and cam sprocket which are more resistant to wear. Refer to the appropriate Car Shop Manual, Section 21-15 for service details.
