BUMPER - REAR - GAP BETWEEN BUMPER END AND SHEET METAL


LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987-88 SABLE

ISSUE: A gap between the bumper end and the sheet metal on the left rear of the vehicle may be caused by an improperly aligned rear bumper.

ACTION: To correct this, realign the rear bumper using the following service procedure.

FIGURE 1:

1. Loosen the six (6) bolts attaching the bumperto-isolators, Figure 1.

2. Align the bumper side-to-side as necessary to eliminate gap, Figure 1.

3. Tighten the six (6) bolts attaching the bumperto-isolators to 16-25 lbs. ft. (22-34 N-m).
