EMISSIONS RECALL NOTIFICATION:
In March, 1992 you were notified that Ford Motor Company was voluntarily recalling certain 1988 model Taurus, Sable and Continental cars. If you recently acquired this car a previous owner was notified. Our letter indicated that the engine in the car identified above by vehicle identification/serial number may be releasing air pollutants which exceed California standards.

Soon after this service was provided we learned that some of the cars were not performing as we had intended.

At that time, we informed you (or a previous owner) that recall service had been temporarily suspended and that we would recontact you when revised service would be available.

AVAILABILITY OF REVISED EMISSIONS RECALL SERVICE:
This letter is to notify you that revised recall service for your 1988 model Taurus, Sable or Continental is now available.

WHAT THE DEALER WILL DO:
At no cost to you, your dealer will modify the emissions control systems on your car's engine and replace the exhaust system catalyst according to the directions provided by Ford. This service is designed to eliminate potentially unsatisfactory engine performance, enhance "Smog-Check" tests results and to reduce air pollutants.

WHY YOUR RESPONSE IS IMPORTANT:
It is important that you have this service done to maintain the emissions warranty coverage on your car, to help assure that your car's engine will pass "Smog-Check" tests and that the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will renew your vehicle registration.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
The time needed to service your car's engine is about two hours. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your car for one full day.

CALL YOUR DEALER:
Call your dealer. Ask for a service date and ask if parts are in stock at the dealership.

If the dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your car for service. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.

When you bring your car to the dealership, present this letter to the dealer service manager. If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the service work free of charge.

CHANGED ADDRESS OR SOLD THE CAR?
If you have, please fill out the enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it.

ASSISTANCE:
If the service offered by this recall is not provided promptly and without charge, contact your dealer service manager. You may also contact the Ford Customer Assistance Center by calling toll-free 1-800-392-3673, (1-800-392-FORD).

The State of California requires the completion of emissions recall repairs prior to vehicle registration renewal. Your car is subject to these requirements. When this recall repair is completed by your dealer, you will receive a Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction certificate. This certificate says that this emission recall has been performed on your car.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET A CERTIFICATE FROM THE DEALER AND THAT YOU HAVE IT WHEN YOU RENEW YOUR CAR'S REGISTRATION.

IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO KNOW THAT THE CERTIFICATE SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES (DMV) ONLY IF IS REQUESTED BY THE DMV. OTHERWISE, THE CERTIFICATE IS TO BE HELD BY YOU FOR YOUR RECORDS.

We regret any problem this recall may cause you. Please call your Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer to have your car serviced as soon as possible in order to avoid any inconvenience when renewing your registration.
