REASONS FOR THIS PROGRAM
On some of these vehicles the power steering pump pulley may break causing the pulley to detach. This would affect the operation of engine accessories such as air conditioning, power steering assist and water pump. If this should occur, the vehicle could still be steered manually. However, greater steering efforts would be necessary.

VEHICLES AFFECTED
All 1988-Model 3.8L engine equipped Taurus and Sables manufactured at the Atlanta and Chicago Assembly Plants and Continentals manufactured at the Wixom Assembly Plant are affected for the production period of March 1 through July 31, 1988.

IN CARES/OASIS
CARES/OASIS will be activated for this program, since owners are requested to return their cars for service.

PROGRAM PROVISIONS AND LIMITATIONS
Owners of affected cars will be informed that service for the pulley condition is available through March 1990.

SERVICE ACTION
Cars returned for service will have a new power steering pump pulley installed at no charge.

REFUNDS
Any owner who has paid for the repairs described in this program will be refunded the costs of parts and labor. Repairs must have been made prior to the receipt of the notification of this program. Refund: requests must be made by March 31, 1990.
