ISSUE: Redundant clips are now installed on some A/C spring lock connectors during assembly. The clip was added to prevent improper assembly of the A/C spring lock connectors. Improper assembly of the connectors could cause a refrigerant loss.
ACTION: If it becomes necessary to disconnect an A/C spring lock connector that has a redundant clip, use the following service procedure.
WARNING: BEFORE REMOVING THE REDUNDANT CLIP AND DISASSEMBLING THE CONNECTOR, EVACUATE THE REFRIGERANT CHARGE FROM THE A/C SYSTEM. USE THE NORMAL A/C SERVICE PROCEDURE COVERED IN THE APPROPRIATE SHOP MANUAL. READ ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
After completing the required service, proceed as follows:
1. Make sure the A/C spring lock connector grooves and O-ring are clean.
2. Properly lubricate and install the specified O-rings.
3. Reconnect the A/C spring lock connector.
4. Re-attach the redundant clip, Figure 1.
5. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Section 36-32 of the appropriate Shop Manual for service details.
