Inspection to Determine Transmission Condition, Exhibit 2
Exhibit 2Owner Notification Program B89
INSPECTION TO DETERMINE TRANSMISSION CONDITION
TRANSMISSION INSPECTION, RECALIBRATION AND REPLACEMENT MUST BE DONE BY TECHNICIANS THAT HAVE COMPLETED THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SPECIALTY TRAINING (STST) FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REAR-WHEEL DRIVE OR EQUIVALENT TRAINING.
1. Remove the transmission oil pan to check the transmission fluid for color, odor and for band material particles.
Fluid should be reddish in color. If it is brown or black or smells burnt, this indicates an overheating condition in the transmission.
Excessive solids or material particles in the fluid indicates clutch disc or band failure.
2. Your inspection will determine recalibration or replacement of the transmission.
If the fluid is reddish in color and there are no material particles, install the recalibration kit.
If the fluid is brown or black, smells burnt, or there are excessive particles, replace the transmission. Call the Transmission
Hotline: 1-800-344-8145.
SPECIAL DEALER INSTRUCTIONS TO THE OWNERS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS TO BE REPLACED.
When replacing transmissions following the call to the Transmission Hotline, reinstall the oil pan and fill fluid as necessary. Provide owners with the following information:
1. Transmissions will be ordered and should arrive at the dealership within 7-10 working days.
2. Owners may elect to drive their cars during the waiting period. Advise these owners to drive in the "D" position and to avoid using the "OD" selector position.
