^ STALL AT IDLE - 2.9L EFI - ENGINES WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES

MERKUR: 1988-89 SCORPIO

ISSUE: A rough engine idle or a stalling condition at idle on units with less than 500 miles (800 kilometers) may be caused by gasoline fouled spark plugs.

ACTION: Perform a EEC IV self-test. If service code "11" is present, install a new set of spark plugs. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Perform a EEC IV self-test. If service code "11" is present proceed to Step 2. If any other service codes are present, service as required.

2. Remove the spark plugs and check for gasoline fouling, (wet and/or black electrodes).

3. If the spark plugs are gasoline fouled, install a new set of spark plugs, (AWSF 42C).
