Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Front Seat Belts

The vehicle seat belts consist of four continuous loop, single retractor restraint systems. The factory installed belts, if removed for any reason, must be installed as outlined. Tighten anchor bolts to specification.

NOTE: Belt assemblies must be installed in matched sets and must not be interchanged between vehicle models.

If a component portion other than the adjustable D-ring cover (buckle portion, retractor portion, etc.) of a seat belt or shoulder belt assembly is nonfunctional or damaged, the entire assembly (buckle, tongue, and shoulder harness portions) must be replaced. The replacement assembly must be installed as a matched set and the manufacturer's identification on the label of the retractor webbing must match the manufacturer's identification on the buckle base.

NOTE: Seat belt assemblies must be replaced after they have been subjected to loading by occupants in a collision.

The system incorporates buzzer and graphic display warnings. The seat belt warning lamp illuminates for approximately six seconds after the ignition switch is turned to ACC (position I) or RUN (position II), regardless of seat belt usage. The seat belt warning buzzer is grounded by a switch in the LH inboard buckle. The seat belt warning buzzer will sound for approximately six seconds unless the driver's belt is connected.
