Disassembly
AXLE ASSEMBLYFig. 2 Exploded View Of Rear Axle:
1. Mount axle assembly into holding fixture T57L-500-B or equivalent and position drain pan under axle.
2. Remove cover attaching bolts, then the cover.
3. Remove stub shaft C-clips, Fig. 2.
4. Remove stub shafts.
5. Mark left and right bearing carriers for assembly.
6. Remove stub shaft oil seals.
7. Remove bearing carrier lock plates.
8. Using a suitable tool, remove bearing carriers.
9. Remove and discard bearing carrier O-rings.
10. Remove differential assembly from case.
11. Remove companion flange attaching nut.
12. Using tool No. D80L-1002-L or equivalent, remove companion flange.
13. Remove pinion oil seal.
14. Remove staking from pinion nuts.
15. Remove pinion nut. If pinion has a left hand thread, remove nut by turning the spline socket counterclockwise while holding the pinion nut socket stationary.
16. Discard pinion nut.
17. Remove pinion and pinion inner bearing and collapsible spacer.
18. Remove spacer from pinion shaft. Discard spacer.
19. Remove pinion outer bearing from case.
PINION BEARINGS CUPS
1. Remove bearing cup from case using tool D78P-1225-B or equivalent.
2. Discard pinion depth shim under inner bearing cup.
PINION INNER BEARING
1. Remove pinion inner bearing using tool No. T71P-4621-B or equivalent.
2. Remove bearing from case.
DIFFERENTIAL SIDE BEARING CONES
Using tools T77F-4220-B1 and T77F-4220-B2 or equivalent, remove bearing cones from differential assembly.
DIFFERENTIAL CASE
1. Remove bolts securing ring gear to the differential case flange.
2. Using a brass drift and hammer, remove ring gear from differential case.
3. Drive pinion shaft roll pin out of case.
4. Drive pinion shaft from case.
5. Rotate side gears until the pinions revolve into the openings in the case.
6. Remove pinions, side gears and thrust washer.
