Wiper Motor: Testing and Inspection

Current Draw Test

1. Disconnect wiper motor electrical connector.
2. Make test connections as shown Fig. 41 or 42. Alternately connect red test lead to wiper motor low and high speed connectors.
3. On Scorpio models, current draw at either terminal should not exceed 3.5 amps.
4. On XR4TI models, current draw at either terminal should not exceed 3 amps.

Park Operation Test

1. Turn ignition switch to ON.
2. Turn wiper switch to ON.
3. When wipers are in a non-parked position, turn ignition switch to OFF.
4. Make test connections as shown Fig. 43. Wiper motor should run one full cycle then park.
5. If wiper motor does not run to park, check for continuity at wiper switch and wiper system wiring. Repair as needed.
