Disassemble and Assemble

Distributor exploded view.:





DISASSEMBLY

1. Remove distributor as previously described.
2. Mark relationship of armature and gear for proper assembly.
3. Using suitable tool, remove and discard drive gear roll pin.
4. Using suitable press, remove drive gear.
5. Using emery paper, deburr and polish shaft, then wipe clean so that shaft slides out freely through shaft bushings in distributor base.
6. Remove shaft assembly from base.
7. Remove octane rod retaining screw.
8. Remove TFI module attaching screws.
9. Remove TFI module as previously described.
10. Remove octane rod assembly.
11. Remove stator attaching screws, then the stator retaining ring.
12. Remove stator assembly from top of distributor bowl.
13. Inspect distributor base bushing for signs of wear or excessive heat concentration, replacing distributor base as necessary.
14. Inspect base O-ring for cuts or damage, replacing as necessary.
15. Inspect distributor base for cracks or wear, replacing as necessary.



ASSEMBLY

1. Place stator over bushing and press down to seat.
2. Place stator connector in position, ensuring that tab fits in notch and the fastening eyelets are aligned with the screw holes.
3. Install retaining ring, then the two stator attaching screws, torquing to 25-35 inch lbs.
4. Install octane rod, placing end of rod onto same post as the original stator.
5. Firmly seat octane rod seal into housing.
6. Install octane rod attaching screw, torquing to 25-35 inch lbs.
7. Wipe clean TFI module and distributor module mounting face, then coat base of TFI module with suitable silicone grease and install module, torquing attaching screws to 25-35 inch lbs.
8. Apply light coat of suitable grease to distributor shaft below armature.
9. Insert shaft assembly through base bushing.
10. Using suitable press, install drive gear on shaft, lining up mark on armature with original drill hole.
11. Install drive gear and new roll pin so that pin is flush with edge of gear.
12. Check distributor for free movement over full rotation of shaft.
13. Install distributor as previously described.
