Manual
The type 5 manual steering gear is a conventional rack and pinion design. The helically machined pinion is supported by a parallel needle bearing above the pinion teeth and a non-adjustable ball bearing below the pinion teeth. Correct meshing of pinion teeth with the rack is achieved by a spring loaded yoke retained by a plug. The free end of the rack is supported by a polyurethane bushing located in the end of the rack tube. Tie rods connect the ends of the steering rack to the rear facing of the steering arms through separate tie rod ends. The inner ball joints are preset at the factory for articulation and are not adjustable.
