LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987-89 TRACER
ISSUE: The transaxle halfshaft locknuts and rear wheel bearing hub locknuts must be replaced whenever they are removed or loosened.
ACTION: If service is required, refer to the appropriate Car Shop Manual, Section 11-15 for detailed service information for the rear wheel bearing hub locknuts or Section 11-16 for the transaxle halfshaft locknuts.
The rear nuts on the RH side of the vehicle have LH threads.
^ Make sure these nuts are turned clockwise to remove them and counter clockwise to install them.
^ Stake the nuts after installation with a small, round tipped chisel.
^ Do not use a sharp chisel.
