STALL - DURING INITIAL COLD START - EEC PROCESSOR
FORD: 1989 FESTIVA
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1989 TRACER
This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to include additional EEC processors and an application chart.
ISSUE: An engine that starts and runs with the key in the "crank" position, but stalls when the key is released to the "run" position may be caused by the EEC processor. This condition only occurs during initial cold start in ambient temperatures of 32~F and below (0~C and below). When the processor is warmed up, the stall condition is not present. The affected vehicles are:
^ 1989 Festiva - EFI Only - All EFI calibrations built from 11/1/88 to 1/4/89
^ 1989 Tracer - All calibrations built from 11/1/88 to 1/30/89.
Refer to the build date on the certification label on the driver side front door or "B" pillar to see if the vehicle falls within the suspect build dates.
