Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain engine coolant.
2. Mark position of hood hinges and remove hood.
3. Remove left cowl vent screen and wiper module.
4. Disconnect alternator to voltage regulator wiring harness.
5. On supercharged engine, remove upper intercooler tube from supercharger and cooler assemblies. Remove bolt retaining cooler tube to power steering bracket and remove tube.
6. On all models, remove radiator upper sight shield, release belt tension and remove belts.
7. Remove air cleaner to throttle body tube assembly, then disconnect cooling fan and motor assembly connector.
8. Remove fan shroud, fan assembly and upper radiator hose.
9. Disconnect automatic transmission oil cooler tubes from radiator, then disconnect heater hoses.
10. Disconnect lower radiator hose at water pump, then remove radiator retaining bolts and radiator assembly.
11. On supercharged engines, remove two push pins attaching intercooler to radiator.
12. On non-supercharged models, disconnect power steering pump and bracket and position aside.
13. On all models, discharge A/C system as described in HEATING VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING/MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/DISCHARGING SYSTEM.
14. Disconnect A/C compressor clutch electrical connector and compressor lines. Cap or plug open A/C lines.
15. Remove A/C compressor retaining bolts, then the compressor.
16. Remove radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
17. Remove wiring shield, then the accelerator cable mounting bracket and position aside.
18. Release fuel system pressure, then disconnect fuel inlet & return hose.
19. Disconnect ECM electrical connector, engine feed harnesses and vacuum lines.
20. On non-supercharged models, disconnect ground wire assembly and coil wire.
21. On supercharged models, disconnect DIS module wiring, then remove coil pack retaining bolts and position aside.
22. Remove nuts attaching lower intercooler tube to supercharger elbow, then remove intercooler tube bolts at power steering bracket.
23. Remove alternator bracket bolts, then disconnect alternator wiring and remove alternator.
24. Remove power steering pump, then bracket assembly and position aside.
25. On all models, disconnect canister purge line.
26. Disconnect one end of throttle control valve cable.
27. Raise vehicle on hoist, then drain oil and remove oil filter.
28. On supercharged models, remove two nuts attaching lower intercooler tube to intercooler, then remove intercooler.
29. On all models, remove exhaust pipe-to-manifold nuts, then remove lefthand exhaust shield.
30. Disconnect heated exhaust gas oxygen (HEGO) sensor assembly.
31. Remove inspection plug, then the torque converter bolts.
32. Remove engine to transmission bolts, then remove engine mount bolts.
33. On supercharged models, remove lefthand mount retaining strap.
34. On all models, remove crankshaft pulley assembly.
35. Remove starter motor assembly, ground cable and starter harness retainers from left and right sides.
36. Disconnect oil level indicator sensor. Partially lower vehicle, then disconnect oil pressure sending unit gauge assembly.
37. Position floor jack under transmission.
38. Position engine lifting equipment and remove engine assembly from vehicle.
39. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten to specifications.
