RECALL NUMBER
91S34
Date May, 1991
TO: All Ford and Lincoln-Mercury Dealers
SUBJECT: Safety Recall 91S34, 1990-91 Thunderbird/Cougars Loose Windshield Wiper Motor Attaching Nuts
AFFECTED VEHICLES Certain 1990/1991 Thunderbird/Cougars built from
February 19, 1990 through October 22, 1990.
REASONS FOR RECALL The windshield wiper motor retaining nuts may loosen
during use resulting in a shifted wiper pattern or jamming of the wiper system.
Jamming potentially can occur if two motor retaining nuts loosen completely and one of the nuts falls into the path of the wiper motor arm.
An inoperable wiper system may lead to impaired visibility during inclement weather which may result in a vehicle crash.
To correct this condition dealers are to inspect the wiper motor studs and if required, remove the three nuts, apply Loctite # 262 to the studs, reinstall and torque the nuts.
