SAFETY RECALL 91S34 T'Bird/Cougar Wiper Motor Nuts
TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS
Refer to T'Bird/Cougar Shop Manual Section 35-60-5, TSB Article 91-5-4
The wiper motor-to-wiper module assembly attaching nuts (3) are to be inspected for Loctite (red color). If evidence of Loctite is not found on the nuts/studs, remove the nuts, apply Loctite, install and torque the three nuts. Refer to the following procedure.
1. Make sure wipers are in the PARK position.
2. Disconnect battery.
3. Remove both wiper arm and blade assemblies.
4. Remove the Left Side cowl vent screen.
5. Inspect the three mounting nuts/studs for Loctite.
6. If evidence of Loctite is seen (red color stains on threaded surfaces), reassemble the wiper system and release the car.
7. If Loctite is not seen, remove one attaching nut at a time, apply a drop of Loctite # 262 to the threads, hand start the nut and torque to 10-12 N-m (89-106 in.lbs.). Repeat for all three nuts. If any of the nuts are missing, replace with a new nut applying a drop of Loctite # 262 before installing and torquing the nut.
8. Reassemble the cowl vent screen, wiper arm/blade assembly, reconnect the battery and check wiper operation.
9. Complete the Claim forms and release the car.
