1. Position the steering wheel in the straight ahead position and place the column in the full "tilt down" position.
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Remove the right hand and left hand center mouldings from the instrument panel. The mouldings snap out, Figure 2.
5. Remove the headiamp control knob.
6. Remove the eight (8) screws that hold the instrument cluster opening finish panel.
7. Remove the five (5) screws that hold the steering column shroud to the bottom of the instrument panel.
8. Place the transmission shift lever in the manual low position.
9. Pull the lower portion of the cluster opening finish panel out and disconnect the wiring.
10. Remove the cluster opening finish panel from the car.
11. Remove the screw holding the PRNDL to the steering column.
12. Detach the PRNDL cable loop from the pin and shift lever.
13. Remove the PRNDL column bracket from the steering column.
14. Remove the four (4) cluster attaching screws.
15. Disconnect the instrument cluster printed circuit connectors.
16. Remove the instrument cluster.
NOTE: KEEP THE FACE OF THE SPEEDOMETER FACING UP TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS.
17. Remove the six (6) screws from the lens and mask assembly.
18. Remove the lens and mask assembly.
19. Remove the temperature gauge and fuel gauge.
20. Remove the screws holding the PRNDL to the speedometer.
21. Remove the PRNDL from the speedometer.

22. Locate the area where the speedometer pointer rests on the flat part of the angled wall, Figure
3. The angled wall is the zero stop.
23. Carefully push the pointer over to the upper stop, Figure 3.
24. Using # 100 grit sandpaper, rough up the complete angled wall area where the pointer rests.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH THE FACE OF THE SPEEDOMETER OR THE POINTER.
25. Clean the filing dust off by using a soft lint free cloth.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR.
26. Tip the speedometer sideways to make sure the pointer will free-fall from the zero stop to the high stop and back again to the zero stop.
27. Re-assemble the car by reversing Steps 1 through 21.
