ISSUE: No illumination of the compact disc player or the radio may be caused by a missing ground wire in the 19B113 wiring harness.

ACTION: Install a ground circuit in the 19B113 wiring harness. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the right side scuff plate/lower body center pillar trim panel. Refer to the 1988 Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 45-03 for service details.

3. Remove the right side cowl trim panel. Refer to the 1988 Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 45-03 for service details.

4. Position the carpet and insulation aside to gain access to the 19B113 wiring harness.

5. Remove the push pins that hold the shield and remove the shield, Figure 1.

6. Pull the twelve (12) pin gray connector apart.

7. Obtain a 10-1/4" piece of 16 gauge wire and crimp terminal D5HZ-14461-A onto one end.

8. Remove the terminal retainer from the male end of the twelve (12) pin gray connector.

9. Insert the wire and terminal from Step 7 into the connector cavity shown in Figure 1, View B.

10. Re-install the terminal retainer into the male end of the twelve (12) pin gray connector.

11. Crimp terminal E80Y-14294-A onto the other end of the 16 gauge wire.

12. Attach the terminal and wire to the floor pan with a screw, (N801846-S36MG).

13. Re-position the shield and install the push pins.

14. Re-position the insulation and the carpet.

15. Re-install the cowl trim panel.

16. Re-install the right side scuff plate/lower body center pillar trim panel.

17. Re-connect the negative battery cable.
