Dear Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1990 Taurus and Sable cars equipped with the optional autolamp (automatic on/off) headlamp control system (Safety Recall 89S74).

used, it may malfunction causing the headlamps to turn off without warning while driving or to not turn off automatically after the car is parked. Under certain conditions, a vehicle crash may possibly result.

Should the headlamps turn off, they can be turned back on by using the manual headlamp switch, which will override the autolamp system.

Warning Until the autolamp system in your car has been repaired,
drivers should use the manual headlamp switch to turn the

headlamps on and off.

Repairs At no cost to you, your dealer will install the correct
autolamp light sensor module on your car.

How long The time needed to repair your car is less than one hour.

Your dealer has the service information needed to repair your car. If your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expedited to arrive at the dealership in approximately one week.

When you bring your car in, give the dealer the enclosed form.

If you misplace the form, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.

If the dealer does not make the repair promptly and without charge, please fill out Section 3 of the prepaid postcard and mail it to us.
