Front Bench Seat - Cushion Sag or Discomfort

SEAT - FRONT - CUSHION SAG OR DISCOMFORT - INSTALLATION OF 1993 HEAVY DUTY SPRING ASSEMBLY - ALL MODELS WITH SPLIT-BENCH SEATS
FORD:
1990-93 CROWN VICTORIA
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1990-93 GRAND MARQUIS
ISSUE:
The front seat cushion may sag and not provide enough support resulting in operator discomfort. This is caused by the design of the seat cushion spring assembly.
ACTION:
Replace the front seat cushion spring assembly with an improved design 1993 HEAVY DUTY spring assembly. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Remove the complete front seat and track assembly from the vehicle. Refer to the 1993 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 01-10B, for the removal procedure.
2. Remove the front seat back assembly. Refer to the 1993 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 01-10B, for the removal procedure.
3. Remove the seat cushion trim. Refer to the 1993 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 01-10B, for the removal procedure.
4. Inspect the cushion frame's five (5) integral retaining tabs for the "Flex-o-lator".
a. If any of the tabs are broken and/or bent rearward as shown in Figure 1, or if the "Flex-o-lator" is cut or broken, proceed to Step 4b.
b. Remove and replace the seat cushion spring assembly with an improved design 1993 HEAVY DUTY spring assembly (F3AZ-5463100-F or F3AZ-5463101-F). Refer to the 1993 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 01-10B, for the procedure.
NOTE:
DO NOT ORDER AND INSTALL THE FRONT SEAT CUSHION FRAME REPAIR KIT BECAUSE IT IS NOT REQUIRED WITH THE NEW, IMPROVED 1993 SPRING ASSEMBLIES FASTENING THEM TO THE FRAME RAIL
5. Position the polyethylene mesh (if so equipped) on top of the "Flex-o-lator" grid.
6. Attach the four (4) coil springs to the rear frame rail. Make sure the hooked ends face upward.
7. Install the seat cushion trim.
NOTE:
BE SURE TO POSITION THE BEAM SENSOR FOR THE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM (IF SO EQUIPPED) ON TOP OF THE "FLEX-O-LATOR" MESH.
8. Install the seat back to the seat cushion.
9. Install the complete seat and track assembly in the vehicle. Refer to the 1993 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 01-10B, for the installation procedure.
10. Be sure the seat track-to-floor attachments are tightened to 14-17 lb.ft. (18-24 N-m).
