90ford40 RADIO - IGNITION NOISE AND ALTERNATOR WHINE - CARS WITH JBL SOUND SYSTEM - EXCEPT TAURUS SHOArticle No. 90-25-11
FORD: 1990-91 TAURUS
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990-91 SABLE
ISSUE: Ignition noise and alternator whine may be heard when the radio is in the tape mode. The interference is usually heard between recordings or during quiet passages. It is caused by routing the radio amplifier wiring on top of the radio. The tape player magnetic head picks up the radio interference radiated by the amplifier wiring.
ACTION: Install an in-line filter on the JBL amplifier power line. The power line is located in the trunk of the car. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
Figure 1:
1. Remove any luggage compartment trim that could limit access to the mounting surface, Figure 1.
2. Mount the in-line filter (FODZ-18A952-A) with three (3) screws (56912-S2).
3. Tighten the screws to 20-30 lb.in. (2-3 N-m).
4. Attach the filter wiring harness connectors to the existing amplifier powerline as shown in Figure 1.
