Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Testing and Inspection



1. Remove PCV Valve from rocker cover.
2. PCV Valve plunger inside should rattle when shaken.
If not, replace PCV Valve.
If so, reinstall PCV Valve and proceed to the next step.
3. Start engine and idle until normal operating temperature is reached.
4. With engine at idle, disconnect the PCV hose leading from the air cleaner housing to the throttle body.
5. Place a piece of paper over the hose end.
6. Wait one minute. Vacuum should hold the paper in place.
If so, PCV system is okay, reconnect hose.
If not, check rubber grommets and connecting hoses for vacuum leaks. Check vacuum fittings and throttle body ports for possible obstructions.
