ISSUE:
A low, audible "slosh", "clunk" or "swish" noise may be heard from the fuel tank after acceleration or deceleration. This noise may be caused by the movement of fuel inside the fuel tank.
ACTION:
Install a new design fuel tank. The new tank contains an internally welded baffle to break up the fuel "wave", providing improved noise dampening. Refer to the following procedure and to the appropriate Taurus/Sable or Continental Service Manual for service details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the old fuel tank, fuel pump/sender and rollover valve. Refer to the 1991 Taurus/Sable or Continental Service Manual, Section 24-50, for 1991 models, or the 1992-95 Taurus/Sable or Continental Service Manuals, Section 10-01, for 1992-95 models.
2. Install a new rubber 0-ring gasket (E6DZ-9417-A) in sender opening of the new baffled fuel tank.
3. Transfer the existing fuel pump/sender and rollover valve into the new baffled fuel tank.
4. Install the new baffled fuel tank into the vehicle.
