Starter Motor: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then isolate cable end with electrical tape.
2. Disconnect starter electrical connectors, then remove starter motor upper attaching bolts.
3. Remove intake manifold upper support bracket attaching bolts.
4. Raise and support vehicle, then remove starter support bracket to intake manifold support bracket attaching bolt.
5. Remove intake manifold lower support bracket attaching bolts.
6. Loosen exhaust hangers, if necessary, then remove starter attaching bolts.
7. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Torque starter to support bracket attaching nuts to 54-70 inch lbs.
b. Torque starter support bracket to manifold support bracket attaching bolt to 14-19 ft. lbs.
c. Torque upper and lower starter attaching bolts to 23-30 ft. lbs.
d. Torque upper and lower intake manifold bracket attaching bolts to 22-34 ft. lbs.
