FUSE - WINDSHIELD WIPERS - BLOWS IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1991-93 CAPRI

ISSUE:
The "wiper" fuse may electrically blow when attempting to operate the windshield wipers while the wipers blades are frozen to the glass.

ACTION:
Change the "wiper" fuse to a 25 amp fuse to correct the condition. Replace the interior fuse panel decal to reflect the 25 amp fuse. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Replace the "wiper" fuse (15 amp or 20 amp) with a 25 amp fuse (D9ZZ-14526-F).

2. Replace the interior fuse panel decal with a new decal (F1JY-14A003-A) which designates a 25 amp fuse for the windshield wipers, Figure 1.

NOTE:
THE NEW FUSE PANEL DECAL ALSO DESIGNATES A 25 AMP FUSE FOR THE COOLING FAN. ENSURE THAT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN FITTED WITH A 25 AMP COOLING FAN FUSE OR UPGRADE AS REQUIRED (REFER TO TSB 92-7-7 FOR DETAILS).

3. Change the Owner's Manual (page 239 for 1991 models, page 245 for 1992 models and page 244 for 1993 models) to show 25 amp fuses for cooling fan and wipers. Check windshield wipers for normal operation to ensure that no other fault causes the wiper fuse to blow.
