HANDLE - DOOR PULL, INTERIOR - BREAKS

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1991-93 CAPRI

ISSUE:
The interior door pull handles may break due to the composition of the material used in its manufacture.

ACTION:
Replace both left and right door pull handles and covers if a failure of either is experienced. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Lift the door handle cover up at the top edge to disengage the upper retainer.

2. Working from behind the pull handle, proceed as follows:

a. Disengage the center retainer of the pull handle cover by pressing the retainer downward using finger pressure or a flat bladed screwdriver.

b. At the same time, apply outward and downward pressure to the pull handle cover to permanently release the retainer.

3. Disengage the lower retainer per Step # 2.

4. Remove the two (2) screws and door pull handle.

5. Attach the new door pull handle (-7622666/7-) with two (2) screws. Tighten to 24-28 lb.in. (2.7-3.2 N-m).

6. Install the new handle cover (-7622670/1-).

a. Position the cover over the door pull handle.

b. Press into place engaging the upper retainer first, followed by center and lower retainers.
