Electronic Climate Control
The Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) System automatically maintains the temperature selected for driving comfort by regulating the temperature of the discharge air and blower speed. The system gives the driver the capability of manually adjusting the location of the discharge air and blower speed, as described below, for desired comfort or for specific operating requirements.
The EATC System is designed to provide comfort consistent with the temperature setting (72, 73, 74, etc.). The discharge air temperature and blower speed will be set automatically to bring the vehicle to the desired set temperature as fast as possible and then maintain that temperature. Setting the temperature higher or lower than the comfort setting will not head or cool the vehicle faster.
Cool Button
The Cool Button is used to lower the temperature setting. Pressing the button once lowers the displayed temperature one degree. Holding the button in will continuously reduce the temperature setting in one degree increments until the button is released or 65~F (18~C) is reached. If the Cool Button is pressed after 65~F (18~C) is reached, only 60~F (15~C) will be displayed and the EATC System will provide continuous maximum cooling.
Warm Button
The Warm Button is used to raise the temperature setting. Pressing the button once raise the displayed temperature on degree. Holding the button in will continuously increase the temperature setting in one degree increments until the button is released or 85~F (29~C) is reached. If the Warm Button is pressed after 85~F (29~C) is reached, only 90~F (32~C) will be displayed and the EATC System will provide continuous maximum heating.
Off
Depressing the OFF button turns the system off. The display will go blank. The system can be reactivate by pushing any of the six function buttons.
Max A/C
The EATC System directs cool, recirculated air through the registers on the instrument panel. As the vehicle interior cools down, the discharge air temperature and blower speed will be changed automatically and gradually to maintain the set temperature.
Norm A/C
The EATC System directs cooled outside air through the registers on the instrument panel. As the vehicle interior cools down, the discharge air temperature and blower speed will be changed automatically and gradually to maintain the set temperature.
Vent
On cool/sunny days, VENT may be used to cool the vehicle interior. In VENT, the blower will remain off until the engine is warm enough to provide heat; however, if the interior temperature is above the desired set temperature, the blower will turn on immediately.
Floor
In FLOOR, the blower will remain off until the engine is warm enough to provide heat. Then the EATC System will direct heated outside air through the floor registers. As the vehicle interior warms up, the discharge air temperature and blower speed will be changed automatically and gradually to maintain the set temperature.
DEF/FLR
The EATC System directs outside air through the defroster outlet, the floor registers, and the side window demisters. Blower speed and set temperature should be adjusted as required to clear the windshield.
Defrost
The EATC System directs outside air through the defroster outlet and the side window demisters.
Blower Speed Control
If the blower speed control lever is positioned in AUTO, the system automatically chooses an appropriate blower speed to maintain the desired set temperature. During cool/cold weather, if VENT or FLOOR is selected, the blower will stay off (when in AUTO) until the engine is warm enough to provide heat.
If the interior temperature is higher than the desired set temperature, the blower will turn on regardless of engine temperature or function selected.
The blower speed can be changed to a fixed setting by sliding the lever to the desired position.
