Lamp Out Indicator: Description and Operation

When the Lamp Out Warning Module senses a burned out bulb, a lamp out warning indicator turns on for any of three lamp circuits.

When the rear lamps are energized, the Lamp Out Warning Module senses burned out rear lamp bulbs and sends a signal to the Instrument Cluster to illuminate the lamp out warning indicator.

With the Main Light Switch in HEAD and the dimmer switch in LO, the Lamp Out Warning Module senses any burned out lo beam headlamp. The Lamp Out Warning Module then sends a signal to the Instrument Cluster to illuminate the lamp out warning indicator.

When the Park or Headlamps are on or brakes are applied, the Lamp Out Warning Module senses any burned out Park/Stop/Turn Lamp bulbs. If a burned out turn lamp is sensed, the Module sends a signal to the indicator Assembly to Illuminate the lamp out warning indicator.

Special vehicle wiring harenesses are used with this circuit. Each lamp circuit contains a resistance wire that provides about 0.5 volts to the Lamp Out Warning Module when the bulbs operate. If one bulb is out, only 0.25 volts is available. The circuitry in the Lamp Out Warning Module detects this difference and sends a signal to the Instrument Cluster.
