Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as outlined under Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair/Airbag System Disarming.
2. On all models, center front wheels to straight-ahead position.
3. Disconnect speed control wire harness from steering wheel.
4. Remove steering wheel retaining bolt.
5. Using steering wheel puller tool No. T67L-3600-A or equivalent, remove steering wheel. Route contact assembly wire harness through steering wheel as wheel is lifted off shaft.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure vehicle front wheels are in straight-ahead position.
b. Route contact assembly wire harness through steering column opening at the three o'clock position.
c. Align steering shaft alignment marks.
d. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 23-33 ft. lbs.
e. On models equipped with airbag, reactivate airbag system as outlined under Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair/Airbag System Disarming.
