ISSUE:
If the chain cover on a 1991 or 1992 AXODE transaxle is replaced with a 1993 level part, an AXODE chain cover assembly kit must also be installed to accommodate the new wiring harness.

ACTION:
If service requires replacement of the chain cover on a 1991 or 1992 model AXODE transaxle, install an AXODE chain cover assembly kit. Refer to Instruction Sheet # 6361, included in the kit, for installation details.





The 1993 AXODE transaxle has a newly designed external electrical connector and internal harness. There is only one (1) internal wiring harness with one (1) external nine (9) pin electrical connector. The new nine (9) pin external electrical connector is located in the top of the transaxle at the chain cover, Figure 1. The side connector has been eliminated.

The AXODE chain cover assembly kit includes the following items...

^ One (1) chain cover assembly

^ One (1) internal harness and connector

^ One (1) jumper harness

^ Eight (8) tie wraps

^ One (1) instruction sheet





The new jumper harness goes between the two electrical connectors on the vehicle harness and the one new nine (9) pin electrical connector in the transaxle chain cover, Figure 2.





NOTE:
WHEN INSTALLING AND USING THE TRANSMISSION TESTER (ROTUNDA 007-00085) ON A 1991 OR 1992 AXODE TRANSAXLE THAT HAS THE NEW CHAIN COVER WITH ONLY ONE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR, DISCONNECT THE VEHICLE HARNESS FROM THE JUMPER HARNESS AND INSTALL THE TRANSMISSION TESTER TO THE JUMPER HARNESS. REFER TO FIGURE 3.
