FORD: 1992 CROWN VICTORIA, ESCORT, TAURUS, THUNDERBIRD
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1992 CONTINENTAL, COUGAR, GRAND MARQUIS, MARK VII, SABLE, TOWN CAR, TRACER
LIGHT TRUCK: 1992 ECONOLINE
ISSUE: Ford has introduced anti-chip primer for the forward facing surfaces of most passenger cars and light trucks. This material is applied over the E-coat primer to the fenders, hood, "A" post and leading edge of the roof. Primer and Topcoat are then applied over the anti-chip primer. A repair procedure has been developed for service use.
ACTION: If paint repair is required, refer to the following anti-chip primer repair procedure.
This repair procedure was designed by the major paint suppliers using their materials and application procedures. One of the materials used in this repair is waterborne and requires that flash time be strictly followed to prevent material sensitivity concerns.
NOTE: IF INSTALLING NEW SERVICE SHEET METAL, CLEAN WITH WAX AND GREASE REMOVER AND LIGHTLY SCUFF THE PANEL WITH A RED SCOTCH BRITE PAD. SAND ONLY AREAS THAT HAVE PAINT SURFACE IMPERFECTIONS, THEN CONTINUE TO STEP 5.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE E-COAT PRIMER.
1. Repair the damaged areas with 80 grit sandpaper to feather-edge the damage.
a. Follow up with 180 grit sandpaper.
b. Finish sanding with 240 grit sandpaper.
2. Blow off the panel with air and clean with wax and grease remover.
